Summary of ASA-Philadelphia Medical Mission

​

ASA-Philadelphia Medical Mission branch is young and growing. In the past ASA-Phila had contributed money to ASA-USA during their medical mission to Anambra State. It should be noted that the Medical Staff of my hospital acting on my request has repeatedly given substantial amounts of money for medical missions to Anambra State. Dr. Raymond Silk, a colleague at the Hospital at the time of his retirement donated his library of over 600 books to the Medical Mission. The same goes for Mrs. Catherine Kuzler the CEO of my hospital who was kind enough to open the storage facilities of St. Joseph’s Hospital to us at my request for Medical equipment that was shipped to our State. We were later to honor those two kind individuals with plaques. Our unquestionably greatest achievement so far was the shipment of well over two million dollars worth of medical supplies in 2009 to the Department of Health, Anambra State with the help of the State Commissioner of Health, Dr. Amobi L. Ilika. That task which had the input of all of us, especially from Drs. Sunny Ekwunife and Paul Ezukwu with their tons of mammography and radiology machines, left us panting with exhaustion-so much was involved, but we have not lost our vision. Pressed as we all are in our everyday quest, that vision is worth repeating lest we forget. It’s a vision of hope and increased capacity that will see individuals, families, communities working together to bring about lasting upgrades in all aspects of health that include physical, mental, emotional, economic, social, spiritual, environmental well being. That is the calling of our time. None is higher.
